Volunteer opportunities

Lend a hand: on-ground volunteering, work experience and group activities

VolunteersWe arrange numerous community events each year, usually in partnership with Friends of Merri Creek and other community groups. Planting, monitoring and weeding events are mostly held on weekends although some of our events are ‘on-call’ and may occur during the week. All are welcome and the emphasis is on having fun. Visit the subscription page if you would like to receive email invitations to events in your area. A calendar of community events (including MCMC's and Friends groups' events) is available on MCMC's Website. Or like the Friends’ facebook page.

Volunteering with our Ecological Restoration Team

We welcome individual volunteers, including student and internship placements, to work alongside our Ecological Restoration crew.  Availability may be limited by seasonal work demands and vehicle space. Past volunteers speak highly of the learning experience. For information about volunteering with our Ecological Restoration Team click here.

Corporate volunteering

We can provide worthwhile activities that can contribute to your organisation’s commitment to social responsibility and team building. For over ten years we have been providing customised activities to suit corporate or other groups. Group activities have a big impact on restoring the Merri Creek’s landscape, while also building the effectiveness of your team. See details here.

Volunteering with our Catchment Program

Our Catchment Program staff deliver education and engagement activities with schools and community groups on biodiversity and waterways. Please This email address is being protected from spambots. MCMC coordinate the Waterwatch program for the Merri and the Moonee Ponds catchments.  Volunteer monitors are trained and designated a site to collect water quality information.  Click here for more information.

Other Volunteering opportunities:

MCMC S011 12SMCMC has over 15000 images of Merri Creek and works and events along Merri Creek from the 1970's that form a nationally significant collection.  Their significance is that they document the emergence of an environmental restoration movement and show the work and resulting dramatic changes to the Creek parklands.

We need long-term volunteers to come into the office to help catalogue these images, so that they can be better used, and at least the best of them made public.
