Darebin councillors to vote on future support for MCMC - Monday 25th August

Dear MCMC Supporter,

The City of Darebin will decide next Monday how the Darebin section of the Merri Creek will be cared for into the future, and whether MCMC will continue our role. This is being done without consulting MCMC or the thousands of people in our community who have contributed so much to restoring the creek.

Councillors will choose between two options:

1. Amending their procurement policy to allow a long-term partnership with MCMC and the community

2. Releasing a commercial tender – opening the care of these special places to private operators.

The Council meeting agenda and report are now live on the Council’s website with all the details. Our recent community survey about the Merri Creek shows just how much you care about the creek and how it’s managed. We know our community wants MCMC to continue as the trusted steward of the Merri Creek. It is why we were established nearly 50 years ago by Councils and the community.

A tender process goes against community support for MCMC and puts the future of MCMC at risk.

In the next 5 days your voice is critical!

Let’s remind Darebin Council how important MCMC is to the future of the creek!

With thanks,

Bernadette Thomas
