The marram baba Merri Creek Parklands are on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people. Merri Creek holds special significance to these Traditional Owners.
The Parklands follow approximately 25 kilometres of the Merri Creek from the Western Ring Road to just south of Beveridge.
This green corridor has immense natural value and holds important cultural stories. It provides sanctuary for the threatened Growling Grass Frog, the Golden Sun Moth, Cunningham's Skink and many birds. Migratory species such as the Short-finned Eel and the Sacred Kingfisher connect Merri Creek to areas far away to the north of Australia such as the Coral Sea. The Parklands include the largest and most diverse native grassland in Greater Melbourne.
Over time, more areas will be publicly accessible and paths will connect with the Merri Creek Trail to the south of the Ring Rd and Bald Hill to the north of Kalkallo.
