The logo for the marram baba Merri Creek Parklands, which you can see to the right and at the top left of this page, was designed by proud young Wurundjeri artist of the Woi-wurrung language group, Lewis Wandin-Bursill.
Lewis describes the logo as follows:
It depicts a story of Bunjil the eagle our creator spirit, Marram, Family and our Smoking Ceremonies. Marram (kangaroo) is travelling across Biik (Country) leaving his tracks for people to follow.
The three family groups (depicted by triangles on a path are inspired by Uncle William Barak's designs) are also on a journey to meet at a sacred site where they will participate in a Barmberring (smoking Ceremony) to cleanse their spirit, land and waterways. Always honouring their Marram Baba (body of mother) and the Ancestors of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung.
A fire is lit and there are flames symbolising Bunjil's wings. Gum leaves are placed on the fire where the smoke swirls around in the spirit of Bunjil, keeping everyone safe.
