When: 8:45am - 12pm, Sunday 3rd May

Please join Merri Creek Management Committee at galgi ngarrk in Somerton (aka Craigieburn Grasslands) to explore some environmental and cultural aspects of the new marram baba Regional Parklands in the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung season of waring. We’ll connect with Friends of Merri Creek’s quarterly bird survey and walk across the gorgeous wild grasslands and visit Merri Creek, Curly Sedge Creek and some ancient beal (Red River gums).

This activity involves staying close as a group, walking in very uneven stony basalt grasslands, and being quiet and attentive to enable the bird survey process. The last survey in biderap season (Jan-Feb) featured a flock of tiny Zebra finches enjoying ripening grass seeds and insects! BYO binoculars if you have some. Please wear gaiters, boots and long pants.

Location: Meet at galgi ngarrk at the gate at the end of O’Herns Road in Somerton only accessible from Hume Highway (not Hume Freeway). Park at the end of the sealed road at the gates. Here's the Google maps pin: https://maps.app.goo.gl/EuHZDgV3nbeSd8EX6
