SITE DESCRIPTION: An old road cutting shows a section of weathered Silurian sandstone and mudstone overlain by weathered basalt. Traces of the buried soil developed on the Silurian rocks are visible although this is partly obscured by slumped basalt debris.

SIGNIFICANCE RATING: LOCAL

This is a good site to show the deep weathering of the Silurian (Melbourne Formation rocks). When used in conjunction with SITE 18, it illustrates the northern side of the buried Merri Creek valley above Coburg Lake.

SITE SENSITIVITY, THREATS, POTENTIAL UTILISATION

CLASS 2. The site should be retained as a geological section. It should not be stabilized or landscaped.
