When: 10am - 11:30am, Sunday 9th November
We're inviting community to the new marram baba (meaning the kangaroo mother’s body in Woi-wurrung language), Merri Creek Regional Parklands. Join local Aboriginal Gunditjmara artist and educator Karen Lovett and MCMC's Dr Angela Foley for an easy stroll along a well-made path to a nearby bridge that crosses Merri Creek, noticing the effects of Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung buath garru season (grass flowering in November) amongst these ancient rocky, watery grasslands.
We’ll have an Acknowledgement of Country and time to pass the clap sticks Karen made, as we share stories over morning tea and do a simple drawing activity of those local flowering grasses. All art materials and simple morning tea provided.
Registration essential HERE.
Meeting point: near 32 Merri Concourse, Campbellfield, at the signed entrance to galada tamboore grasslands. Here's the Google maps pin: https://maps.app.goo.gl/k24BMn3ReNdzwXxu5
You can visit Karen’s art in co-created installations in Hume, at the Reconciliation Mosaics Trail and the Hume Stolen Generations Marker project.
This event is suitable for everyone, those under 18 years must be supervised by an adult. Please bring water, dress for the weather (wear a hat and sturdy shoes). Please don’t attend if you are feeling unwell.
Funded by DEECA Round 1: Seven Wurundjeri Seasons.
