Join us at the FoMC Merri Park working bee to learn about and protect the gorgeous indigenous grass Microlaena, in guling season. Grasses are notoriously difficult to identify, we’ll help you easily know which one’s which. 

Did you know? 

- Microlaena’s common name is ‘Weeping grass,' which refers to the slender droop of its fine stem, leaves and weeping seed heads (not to be confused with the aggressive, weedy Ehrharta!)
- Microlaena seedlings develop slowly and need care from weedy competition. 
- Microlaena has a deep rhizome, which is hard to pull out and is lovely as a backyard grass requiring only a light touch to thrive (a periodic trim does the trick!).
